The White Mouse Youth Dance Project is a youth performance project inspired by the story of WWII resistance fighter Nancy Wake. The project is led by local artist Samara Cunningham, with a team of highly skilled collaborators including composer Michael Shirrefs, filmmaker Luke McNee, projection artist Kate Russell, photographer Lauren Murphy, costume designer Mayumi McPhee, musician Luke Richardson and arts support worker Jasmine Susic.
A Youth Advisory team, led by Leticia Prosser and Harriet White, will help guide the artistic direction of the work. Young people will take part in weekly workshops between May and August, co-creating a dynamic production that explores themes of bravery, resistance and self-determination. Participants will explore storytelling through movement, sound, costume and film projection, gaining valuable hands-on experience in a professionally supported creative setting, maybe even for the first time.
All young folk are welcome to take part: rehearsals will be on Wednesdays from 4–6 pm. The final White Mouse performance will take place at Foster Arts Center on Friday 28 May. This project is supported by the Australian Government through Festivals Australia.
