The Prom Coast News is a locally operated and owned community newspaper in South Gippsland, distributed every fortnight to the townships of Meeniyan, Stony Creek, Buffalo, Fish Creek, Foster, Port Franklin, Toora, Port Welshpool, Welshpool, Yanakie, Tidal River, Waratah Bay, Sandy Point, Walkerville, Tarwin Lower and Venus Bay.
We believe a strong community newspaper makes for a strong community. Our mission is to make the Prom Coast News the place to find independent, local news for everyone.
The Prom Coast News was founded in 2024 by community members, seeking to fill a vacuum left when the local privately owned newspaper, The Mirror, ceased publication. The original funding to establish the Prom Coast News was from community donations, which is still an important funding stream for the paper.
It is published by the not-for-profit Prom Coast News Group Incorporated, and the paper is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors.
Our Board is made up of:
Ian Fullagar (Sandy Point/Foster North)
Ian Fullagar is a practicing solicitor with nearly 40 years' experience. He has very broad governance, company secretarial, risk management, NFP, financial management and strategic planning experience.
John Durie (Sandy Point)
John Durie has been a business reporter for 40 years, starting his career in the Canberra Press Gallery in 1980. John has worked as a Chanticleer Columnist for the AFR, a business columnist for the New York Post, and worked in Paris. John is currently a national columnist with The Australian and specialises in competition and regulatory issues.
Neil Travers (Fish Creek)
Neil Travers has worked extensively in the public and private sectors as a communication strategist, ministerial adviser, consultant on public affairs issues, in-house corporate communications and agency head. Most recently, he was Executive Director of Destination Gippsland, but he first started his working life as a journalist. Neil has held many prominent roles in the public relations industry as a Fellow of the Public Relations Institute of Australia
Luke Hannigan (Yanakie)
Luke Hannigan has previously served as secretary and vice president of the Yanakie Progress Association and has held several other leadership roles across not-for-profit groups. He is currently studying at Deakin University in Geelong/
Linda Giddy (Foster)
Linda Giddy spent much of her working life in the corporate world, in Australia and overseas. Her last corporate role before moving to the green hills of Foster was as the head of Media and Communications for Australia Post. Linda has a BSc in Economics and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management.
Glenn Beard (Venus Bay)
Glenn Beard has extensive experience in finance and risk management, banking, business planning and development and community volunteering. He was Chair of Bendigo Bank Preston from 2018 to 2023, and a Board member of Inner North Foundation (Northcote) from 2017 to 2020.
Kaye Rodden (Foster and Koonwarra)
Kaye Rodden is a retired scientist and farmer. She has a doctorate in agriculture, and was awarded an OAM in 2024 for services to conservation, after spending 40 years volunteering for Landcare at the local, state and national level. She regularly contributes to the Prom Coast News, Landcare magazines and national agricultural newspapers. Kaye co-founded the Prom Coast News.
Mohya Davies (Foster)
Mohya Davies is a regional leader who has a strong connection to her community. She has over 40 years of experience in the farming, retail and accommodation sectors and has been on many committees and boards, including the Prom Coast Centres for Children and the South Gippsland Hospital. She served as a Councillor on the South Gippsland Shire Council for 12 years, including one as mayor. Mohya co-founded the Prom Coast News.
