Fish Creek's beloved pop-up bar La Guinguette is back for one more feel-good Friday before taking a well-earned winter rest.
Pain Perdu's Capucine , who hosts the regular Guinguette nights, says that "We have decided to take a winter break, to breathe a bit and also spend some quality time with family. To celebrate, we are having a Guinguette night this Friday the 5th of June, 6–9pm, with special guests. Come for a dance and to say goodbye before we close until mid July."
The special guests in question are Karavana Flamenca, a band that has spent more than a decade performing at major festivals including the Port Fairy Folk Festival, the Canberra National Folk Festival and the Cygnet Folk Festival, and who served as support act for the Gipsy Kings on their last Australian tour. The band plays rumba flamenco, fusing the rhythms of Afro-Cuba with traditional flamenco melodies.
Majestic Dining's Shalbe Walsh will be in the kitchen, serving delicious food, including her very special piroshki: hand pies filled with beef and sauerkraut, served with horseradish yoghurt and beetroot sauce. "When South Gippsland weather gets cold and windy, the rain wakes you up in the middle of the night, and the daylight disappears at 5pm, it reminds me of the Pacific Northwest and I start to crave the comforts of home - including piroshki," Shalbe said. A selection of other savoury items will also be on offer, alongside cocktails from Joshua Sandwich, and Capucine's desserts.
La Guinguette runs this Friday 5 June from 6–9pm at Fish Creek. Pain Perdu will reopen from mid-July.
