Picture and writing entries have been flowing in and we are amazed by the imagination and excitement in the pages so far. If you haven’t entered yet, now is the time: the Fishy Stories Writing Challenge closes on 19 September 2025.

Now in its fourth year, the much-loved Writing Challenge invites students from Year 1 to Year 8 to unleash their creativity and bring their stories to life. An annual highlight of the Fishy Stories Children’s Festival of Stories, the challenge is open-ended – the only limit is imagination. Students can create a written story of up to 350 words, or a picture story of up to 8 panels over two pages.

From personal experiences and fantasy adventures, to pets, sporting champions, people they admire, or even emotions like happiness, fear or confusion – every story is welcome.

It is not too late to enter! Visit www.fishystories.org for tips, inspiration, full guidelines and the submission form.

Selected stories will take centre stage at the Fishy Stories Festival on 15 November 2025. All entries will be published in our online E-book, with picture stories exhibited in Fish Creek Hall, and 20 written stories will be brought to life by the talented Foster Arts Music and Drama Association (FAMDA).
