Do you have a ruckperson hidden inside, just waiting to leap? Are you a speedy winger, desperate to dart down the ground? Can you guard the goals steadfastly, not looking for glory but simply honour? Well, one of our newest local teams is looking to grow, and the message from the Dees is simple: you don't need experience, you just need to show up.

The MDU women’s team is on the hunt for new players, and anyone who chats to the players knows that this is a team for everyone. With 15 players currently on the list and the oldest aged 40, the squad is living proof that women's community football is about far more than elite athleticism. It is about friendship, fitness and being part of something genuinely special.

MDU star and Foster Secondary student Casey Johnson, one of the team's driving forces, says the experience speaks for itself.

"Female football is a great chance to get around girls and women with the same interests," she said. "It's a great opportunity to stay active and get out with amazing people. We would love to get more involved in female footy because it seriously is such a good way to socialise and get around a group of girls who make you feel so included."

Games are played on Sundays around midday against teams from across South Gippsland, making it a perfect way to spend a winter weekend. Training runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays with coach Kathy from 5pm to 6.30pm.

With players coming from Nyora, Berrys Creek, Mirboo North, Korumburra, Leongatha, Venus Bay, Meeniyan, Dumbalk, Foster, Fish Creek and Yanakie, the Dees truly are a team for South Gippsland.

Whether you have played before or have always been curious but never taken the leap, the MDU women's team wants to hear from you. Get in touch with the club to find out more.
