Many people have been working hard behind the scenes to bring Fish Creek’s new coLAB festival to life, and it’s so wonderful to imagine all the different activities nestled into such a rich program for the Prom Coast community to enjoy this coming 9-10 October.
There will be an array of incredibly diverse activities, from roaming street performances and interactive art activities to performances for babies and Auslan interpreted ‘in-conversations’ at Fish Creek Memorial Hall. Fish Creek inclusive arts company (it's no) drama will also be performing Powerline in the Fish Creek Village Green with Rawcus Theatre Company at 11:30 and 1pm on Saturday.
Carly Findlay OAM will be speaking at midday on Saturday 10 October on stage at the Hall. Carly is a well-known disability advocate, author and appearance activist who has released two books, Say Hello and Growing Up Disabled in Australia. Lyn Galacher is hosting these sessions and we know Lyn will facilitate some exciting conversations.
We've made sure to have a blend of guest and local artists, giving our community the chance to share homegrown talent with visiting artists from around the state. Isabel Whyte will be making her signature cane, paper and light sculptures in the Bird Aviary craft activity from 10am–1pm on Saturday, followed by the coLAB closing celebration from 6–9pm at the Ride the Wild Sculpture Park. The aviary will light up, and the community can gather around the fire barrels and hang out together.
For anyone who's keen to sing, there are two singing workshops and there's also a dance workshop with Jessica Lesosky for those who love to move and groove.
The main opening event on Friday 9th is The Piano Lounge Soiree, an evening of local entertainment, with food by Pain Perdu and drinks by Gurney’s at the Fish Creek Memorial Hall. It’s a chance to enjoy some wonderful local talent, including Andrew Murray on the grand piano with his brother Robin Murray on double bass, Caitlin Pilkington from The Lunettes, as well as some exciting emerging talent from the Foster Secondary College VCE music program.
The coLAB Access Team will be around across the two days, wearing high-vis vests, so people with questions or access requirements can easily find them and get the information they need.
