Midweek Pennant Round One.
Our Midweek side has been promoted to Division 3 after being in the lowest division for a few years. We made the very early morning trek down to Phillip Island first up.
We were extremely fortunate to have two players play their first Pennant games. Trent Crawford who has been a member for a few years and Carla Jenkins who has joined us just this season. Both reportedly bowled very well and enjoyed the competitiveness of Pennant bowls.
Unfortunately, our side went down on two rinks and down overall 51-75. A rusty start to the season but we will dust ourselves off for our first game on our grass against Tarwin Lower next round.
Weekend Pennant Round One.
The Pennant season commenced with the short trip to Foster and with it our side's promotion to Division 3 after our flag win last season. Carla Jenkins played her first Weekend game and again bowled well. We also welcomed Clarrie Smith back to our club.
It was a tight game across all rinks with a few cobwebs being dusted off. Foster pulled away late to win two rinks to one. The game went down to the wire with Foster taking the win by just 4 shots - 65-69. We will host Corinella on our grass next week.
October Monthly Triples Report.
The third Wednesday of each month is our Monthly Triples with October's being the first this season. Other than the usual Port Welshpool wind, it was a perfect day, and our grass green has come along nicely for this time of the year.
Newly appointed President, Matt Gallagher, welcomed the 12 teams who looked to enjoy bowling on grass whilst catching up with all the usual suspects.
Winners were a combination team of Phil Stimson (MN), Dave Canning (PW) & Joe Paynting (Meeniyan). Runners-up were the Meeniyan team of Nick Kelly, Dave Bond and Ray Corry and Best Last Game went to John Ryan, Alan Spooner and Phil Brown of Toora.
We must acknowledge the service of Margaret McDonald who has handed over the reins of Tournament Secretary to Andrew Stimson after many years.
