Waratah Beach Surf Life Saving Club has made history, claiming a silver medal at the Victorian IRB State Championships in the women's mass rescue event, with the club's first ever state medal in IRB racing after 12 years of competition.
The result capped a landmark day for the club, which also finished seventh overall in Victoria, its highest ever placing at the state championships. Joining forces with neighbouring clubs Inverloch SLSC and Woolamai Beach SLSC meant members from all three clubs came home with medals, while fellow Prom Coast club Venus Bay SLSC had an outstanding championship of their own, finishing third overall in the state with a strong medal haul across their team.
The state championship title went to Barwon Heads 13th Beach SLSC, who were crowned state champions on the day. The club now sets its sights on the Australian Championships in mid-July at South West Rocks SLSC in New South Wales.
