Warren Davies – aka The Unbreakable Farmer – will be the guest speaker at a free community screening of the film ‘Just A Farmer’ in Fish Creek Memorial Hall on August 29.
Fish Creek Memorial Hall Committee members are excited to welcome Warren Davies to speak at the free screening of the award-winning film. Davies is a much sought after speaker on the topics of resilience, persistence and determination - three words that best describe him.
“We are thrilled to be hosting Warren as part of our community showing of the award-winning film ‘Just A Farmer’, and to bring the message of support and awareness of mental health within our regional farming community” says Marge Arnup, Secretary Fish Creek Memorial Hall.
Warren is a former dairy farmer who bought his first farm in Kyabram at 22 years of age and settled in to live the country life. However, after 16 years the harsh reality of being a farmer became very evident: high interest rates, low commodity prices, floods and drought. All had an impact on his mental health.
"These events tested my resilience, persistence and determination, and had a massive impact on my young family, my relationships, and of course, my finances - culminating with the decision to basically walk off the farm,” says Warren.
“Although with my skills, work was easy to find, such as managing large scale operations from Victoria to South Australia - it just wasn’t the same. I couldn’t settle and it felt like I had lost my identity because not only was the farm my career, but it was also my home, my life! In my eyes, I had failed and carried the guilt of failing as a husband, and as a father.”
“I began my journey of piecing my life back together, with the road long and hard. Through my resilience, persistence and determination, I now tell my story and share my experiences to audiences of all ages. I reach people from the country to the city, ranging from the farmer to the CEOs of large corporations.”
Warren is an incredibly engaging and dynamic speaker. He is often on television and radio giving voice to farmers and the mental health challenges being faced throughout rural Australia.
