Round 15 was a massive weekend at Toora Football & Netball Club and not just on the oval and court. Despite the drizzly and dank weather, the town came together to raise funds for The Cancer Council with a bunch of events across the day attended by people from near and far.

It all kicked off with the Big Buffet Breakfast. Mega Raffle donations that went into the pot were an amazing array of prizes ranging from a week’s accommodation in Palm Cove, numerous vouchers to eat out, firewood to see a castle through three winters and a dressed lamb.

Talking of which, once the humans had done battling for the day's honours, it was the turn of sheep brought in from paddocks from the Inlet to Woorara. Literally thousands of dollars were donated in ‘buying’ a four legged thoroughbred by attendees eager to see their ovine picks cross the line first in the sheep races. And to round off the day's events Bohnny’s Cafe was on hand to feed the crowd into the evening as festivities concluded.

As we go to press, the total raised is still being counted but it’s believed to be well in excess of $15,000, which, as Toora FNC’s Jo de Boer says, “is a huge result for our little club”.
