On 7 May, Samuel McLennan came to visit the Fish Creek Primary School Grade 5/6s. Samuel has built a boat made entirely of rubbish that has washed up on the beach. He was building for two years and has dared himself to take it from the southern side of Tasmania to Sydney.  He started building in 2022 and set sail in 2024. He has been sailing for 14 months and still has to go to Sydney. Right now the boat is moored in Walkerville. The sails are made of oyster nets and rubber straps that washed up. And the frame is made of plastic pipes.

Samuel has also started a thing called Project Interrupt which is about interrupting how we think, speak and act around ourselves and other people and consider what it’s doing to our environment. His message is “to use the things you’ve got and can find before you buy something new.” Henry Schultz-Sheehan
