The Foster Community Planning Event, held on Saturday 15 November, was a great success, attracting more than 270 community members throughout the day. Attendees contributed their ideas, shared feedback and explored the results of the recent Foster Community Survey.

One of the highlights of the day was the sharing of ideas and the number of people expressing interest in getting involved to make projects happen.

“We have a list of great ideas and projects,” said Dana Hughes, Community Planning Group member. “There are people and groups who have already put their hands up to participate and a couple more are keen to lead a project, which is fantastic. Without champions projects will not progress.”

Local community groups added to the positive atmosphere, with representatives from the Foster Historical Society, U3A, Manna Gum Community House, South Gippsland Health Foundation, the Foster Op Shop and Collectables, the Foster Swimming Pool and the Prom Coast News promoting their groups and projects as well as connecting with residents.

The next steps are to compile all the data and ideas gathered from the event and survey, prepare a draft Community Plan and present it to the community for review and comment in February 2026, progress the projects that have identified champions ready to lead them. retain project ideas without champions as “great ideas” to be revisited when interest emerges and to keep the community updated through the local press and the Foster Community Planning Facebook page.
