From 12–18 October 2025, Victoria turns the spotlight on more than 750,000 unpaid carers, neighbours, friends and family supporting loved ones with illness, disability, mental health or age-related needs. Under this year’s theme, Carers Victoria is urging everyone to “Care for a Carer” through simple actions: be present, offer help, or just let carers know they are seen.

Locally, Yarram Neighbourhood House is hosting a Carers Country Fair on Sunday 12 October, 11 am–3 pm, at Devon North Hall (599 Tarra Valley Road). The free event (bookings required for catering) will include food, games, activities and live music from Fiona Curram. Community transport support is also being arranged for those needing assistance.

Yarram Neighbourhood House’s Sue Greening said, “Many don’t see themselves as carers, it’s just part of looking after someone you care about. I know it took me a long time to acknowledge I was an unpaid carer.

“To have the opportunity to come together with other carers and share over a meal helps with the isolation. To be able to bring the family for a free outing such as the Country Fair I hope gives the carers a feeling of connection to each other as well as a happy time with their families.”

The aims of National Carers Week are to raise awareness of the challenges carers face (emotional strain, isolation, dropped opportunities), recognise their indispensable contribution, and to inspire action at individual, community and government levels to bolster support services, reduce burnout, and foster inclusion.
