From art shows and markets to egg hunts and dancing, the Prom Coast is shaping up for a bumper Easter weekend, with a string of community events spread across the region from Thursday through to Monday.

The festivities kick off on Thursday 2 April with the opening of the 15th annual Port Albert Art and Curiosity Show at the Mechanics Institute Hall, running through to Sunday from 12pm to 5pm.

On Good Friday, rock 'n' roll dancers are invited to the Daker Centre in Leongatha for a fundraising dance in aid of the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal, with vintage cars, hot rods, a sausage sizzle and live music on offer. Tickets are $20, with bookings through Anne on 0409 502 914.

Families in Foster can head to Pearl Park on Saturday morning for free Eggcellent Easter Fun, running from 10am to 11.30am, with egg hunts, games, music and a BBQ. Those feeling more adventurous might make the trip to Waratah Bay for the annual Back to Charlie Brown picnic, honouring the legendary local beachcomber with sandcastle building, egg hunts, foot races, a tug of war and Celtic music from 9am.

Easter Saturday also brings markets and art galore, with the Koonwarra Farmers Market from 8.30am, and the Makers Market at Meeniyan Town Hall from 10am. The Sandy Point Easter Art Show opens on Saturday, running through to Monday at the Sandy Point Community Centre, while the CropFest film festival runs in Toora, along with the opening of Rare Earth Studio Gallery’s new photography exhibition. Meanwhile, Stockyard Gallery opens their new show, ‘Quartet’ in Foster.

Post Easter eggs, head to the Promontory Produce and Craft Market at Foster Showgrounds from 8am on Sunday morning, while the evening sees the Port Albert foreshore come alive for the Easter Family Fun Day and Remembrance Lantern Festival, part of the Tarra Festival. Live music, food trucks and free kids' activities lead up to the highlight of the night — floating lanterns launched on the water at dusk. Entry by gold coin donation, from 4pm to 8pm.

Rounding out the long weekend on Monday, the Tarwin Lower Market adds a special attraction this year — a dog show, with fun competitions from 10am and registrations from 9.30am.
