Feedback is being sought from the electorate by South Gippsland Shire Council on its Draft Road Management Plan.
The plan “outlines how Council manages and maintains its extensive road and roadside asset network to ensure it remains safe, accessible, and functional for all users”.
Assets ranging from roads and footpaths, to kerb and channel, bridges, signage, and roadside vegetation are covered in the plan which also “provides guidance for staff on how to assess and respond to common hazards, such as overgrown vegetation, damaged signage, or loose pavers.”
Feedback to the plan is open until Sunday 13 July and can be provided at : https://yoursay.southgippsland.vic.gov.au but a number of Prom Coast News readers have already aired their views.
One responder said, “Our roads from Wilson's Prom to Wonthaggi are dangerous. Vic roads need to pay. Potholes are not good on our cars and lives.”
Another replied, “If people want more done and want it done quicker somebody has to pay for it. Those costs currently come out of our rates. Be careful what you wish for!”
John Schelling, Mayor of South Gippsland Shire Council explained, “South Gippsland has an extensive road network, and the Road Management Plan will ensure that Council’s responsibilities, maintenance standards and inspection timeframes are clearly defined to our community.
He continued, “This Plan will also help Council manage risks and deliver consistent and transparent approach to maintaining public infrastructure. I encourage our community to provide their feedback in this important Plan that impacts our region”. David Barrett
